The highly anticipated movie adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ would be in Cinemas across Nigeria from this Friday.
Half of a Yellow Sun which has been released in cinemas in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand has been able to generate Two Hundred and Eighty Million Naira (N280,000,000) from cinema releases, in-flight right sales and online viewing right sales. The movie is however expected to do better in the Nigerian market as the writer, producer and director are all Nigerians.
As the cinema release date of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ for the Nigerian market draws closer, heightened expectations and excitement awaits the day as can be seen in several posts on social media platforms. Speaking to an official of Bigsam Media, an avid HOAYS fan said “I can’t wait to get to the cinema on Friday, I am sure it would be an unforgettable experience.”
According to Bigsam Media “HOAYS would be in cinemas from this Friday and we are expecting it to do better than what it did abroad. This movie is for Nigeria, from Nigeria, by Nigeria and we are sure that it would perform beyond our expectations.”
The movie which was to be released earlier this year but could not as a result of problems with the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board has however been approved for release and would be in cinemas on August 1st.
The movie features BAFTA award winner and Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, BAFTA award winner Thandie Newton, Genevieve Nnaji, O.C. Ukeje, Zack orji and Onyeka Onwenu.
